Embrace The Bloom-Gloom With SLØTFACE’s ‘Bright Lights’ [Stream]

Formerly known as Slutface, Norwegian quartet SLØTFACE are leaping across the Atlantic Ocean to make landfall in America this winter. Their courageous and contagious brand of feminist-leaning indie rock has polished itself through steady EP and single releases over the course of the last few years, and their most recent drop “Bright Lights” adds to their impressive catalog. Vocalist Haley Shea tells the tale of a conflicted relationship, full of overwhelming moments, yells, and pressure. “Take me away from the edge of the stage, cause I’m crushed, crushed, crushed,” she sings plaintively. More of a low-key ballad than their previous single, “Take Me Dancing,” “Bright Lights” still packs the emotional punch of an anthem destined for stadium sing-alongs. This band finds a sweet spot in between the intensely distorted guitars of punk and the harmonies and hooks of pop, all wrapped around the charisma of deeply personal yet relatable lyrics.
