Emanuelle Goes Bananas (formerly SUICIDE! - The Jamestown Massacre)

Posted on the 16 June 2014 by Georgewhite @georgew28573812
1. EXT. JFK AIRPORT, NEW YORK, DAY, 1979
We see an aerial shot of NEW YORK, 1979. The TWIN TOWERS are in view. A SUBTITLE appears - "Names have been changed to protect the innocent."
CUT - A  YELLOW TAXICAB arrives at the oddly desolate AIRPORT.
2. INT. LOBBY, JFK AIRPORT, NEW YORK, DAY, 1979
We see the slim, tall, attractive, dark-haired EMANUELLE, as she walks in, carrying her luggage. A fat, balding, middle-aged Englishman in fedora hat and white linen suit, WILKIN.
WILKIN (like a butler)
Miss Emanuelle, your flight to Baranca has been booked.
EMANUELLE (dubbed American)
Thank you, Wilkin.
WILKIN (cautious)
Are you sure it is right to go to Baranca?
EMANUELLE (calm)
Yes, the crisis between General Vargas and the American missionaries at Jamestown is coming close to a ceasefire.
WILKIN (worried)
But there are suspicions over the validity of the tea plantations.
EMANUELLE (confused)
What do you mean?
WILKIN (forthright)
No shipments are being sent out from San Jurico. I have been in contact with a BBC news team. No tea ships were there, just a yacht, resembling one that the Reverend John James had been seen in.
EMANUELLE (suspicious)
Don't worry, I'll ask him myself.
TANNOY VOICE (female, Dutch accent, V/O)
Inter-American Airways Flight 180 to Fernandes Airport, at Hangar Two.
EMANUELLE (running off)
Must be going.
3. INT. FLIGHT 180, INTER-AMERICAN AIRLINER, SKY, DAY, 1979
We see EMANUELLE sitting on the plush, beige-interior of the PLANE. Two shaggy long-haired slightly-hippyish Latino REBELS in green khaki uniforms are sitting opposite her. She looks suspiciously at her.
TANNOY VOICE (CAPTAIN, male, British, reserved, V/O)
We will now be landing at Fernandes Airport, San Jurico.
Suddenly, the two REBELS get up and shout in a vaguely Spanish dialect. Each pulls out a pistol, and walks along the plane, trailing their pistols over passengers' heads, one REBEL on the left, one on the right.
REBELS (in unison, aiming pistols at passengers' heads)
Barquero!
One of the REBELS nears EMANUELLE. She pulls the gun out of his hand, firing it and shooting his fist. He screams, and tries to wrestle it out of her. The other REBEL shoot but misses EMANUELLE, who rolls down. The other REBEL shoots back and creates a hole in the window. EMANUELLE is sucked out.
4. COUNTRYSIDE, BARANCA, SKY, DAY, 1979
We see crab-grass, tropical, could be SOUTH AMERICA or ASIA. EMANUELLE rises out of some marshes. She is bruised but alive. Suddenly, her luggage is thrown down. She rolls her eyes and gets up. A white JEEP passes by, containing a black American, CANFIELD.
CANFIELD (stops)
Miss Emanuelle?
EMANUELLE (gets up)
Yes?
CANFIELD (salutes)
I'm Jim Canfield. I've been sent by Reverend James.
EMANUELLE (gets into JEEP)
Thank you, I had a bit of a bumpy ride. The plane was hijacked.
CANFIELD (friendly)
I see. Yes, they're  rebels sent by the corrupt local government of President General Vargas. He is not exactly welcome to tourists.
EMANUELLE
He wants you out.
CANFIELD (knowledgeable)
Yes, he believes that the Reverend James has been sent by the US government to claim Baranca. Most of the people on the flights from the continental United States to Baranca are going to Jamestown. Vargas is holding them hostage. He hasn't killed anyone, but he will. We are only here to get away from the States, not to extend it.
EMANUELLE (curious)
Why?
CANFIELD (almost in awe of REVEREND JAMES)
Four years ago, the Reverend James had a vision. An angel told him that the world would be destroyed in a flood. Believing himself to be a new Noah, he decided that if he was based at the Equator, he could avoid the tide of the melted ice caps. He believes that we should leave the modern life behind, and live simply, in order to begin a new Golden Age.
EMANUELLE (quizzical)
Why the tea ships?
CANFIELD (gentle)
The tea plantation is a way of bringing money into the venue. We have enough food ourselves. We are vegetarians. We believe that meat is unnecessary in our passage to Heaven. We have the banana harvest. The tea is a way of creating money for advertising, to attract more to the community, to build schools and supply electricity and our own communications network separate from the outside world.
EMANUELLE (confused)
So, what happened to the tea ships? They never arrived.
CANFIELD (angry)
Blame the insurgents. They blew them up, but managed to rescue the tea so they could then export it to Britain, Baranca being a former crown Colony.
EMANUELLE began taking photos of the passing RAILROAD, littered with HUMAN CORPSES.
EMANUELLE (shocked)
You said no one was dead.
CANFIELD (tired, unhappy)
I meant the hostages. For the past six months, there has been conflict, shall we say between the local Army and Jamestown. They hijacked a tour bus. Initially, no one was killed, and they all escaped. However, at night, guerillas broke in and massacred an area, of mostly native Barancans who had joined the commune, as revenge.
EMANUELLE (horrified)
That's horrible.
CANFIELD stops at a WHITE GATE CHECKPOINT manned with two African-American GUARDS in white safari suits. He salutes them, and they let him in.
CANFIELD (smiling)
Welcome to Jamestown!
5. EXT. JAMESTOWN, BARANCA, DAY, 1979
The JEEP enters  a planned, clean village of WOODEN BUILDINGS. A CHILDREN'S CHOIR sings on the VERANDA of  a WOODEN SCHOOLHOUSE. There are overhead telephone cables. The only vehicles are bicycles and white ex-MILITARY JEEPS.
EMANUELLE (pleased)
It seems normal. Why the jeeps?
CANFIELD (happy)
This was a former US base. They left all their equipment. Keen to save money, we made the most of what we had.

Suddenly, a figure, matted dyed black hair, sun-tan, sunglasses, white evangelist robes, in his fifties appears, walking majestically. It is JAMES.
JAMES (suave if slightly sleazy but trying to be perfect, kisses EMANUELLE's hand)
Welcome, young lady. You must be Emanuelle.
EMANUELLE (nods)
Yes, I am. Thank you, Reverend James.
JAMES (friendly)
Yes, now, I did forget to mention that we have a public relations manager, Amy Shannon, who will help with the guidelines we give to journalists.
A middle-aged but attractive woman, AMY SHANNON appears, frizzy brown hair, dressed in a brown tie-neck blouse. She looks frail.
AMY SHANNON (deep, throaty voice ravaged by cigarettes)
Hello, Miss Emanuelle. We treat any journalists as if they are long-time residents of Jamestown. Therefore, you will be limited to a strict diet. We believe here that alcohol is the urine of the devil and the only drinks here are water or natural fruit juices. We are vegetarians. Meat is banned. Fish is an occasional treat, though. Bananas are a customary meal, as they provide calcium.   Also, you will be limited to an hour outside the campus. We don't want you to be killed, do we?
JAMES (folksy)
Yes, Shannon, can we have a private talk, shall we?
AMY SHANNON (worried)
What is it?
JAMES (calm but sinister)
Oh nothing, just some details I forgot to tell you.
EMANUELLE (smiling)
I think I shall go.
JAMES (nods)
Yes.
CANFIELD (escorting EMANUELLE)
I shall take you to the Royal Chapel.
6. INT. JAMES' OFFICE, DAY, 1979
CUT - In a sparse office, littered with papers and a few Bibles, an American flag and "Home Sweet Home" banner hung in the background, JAMES leads AMY SHANNON in.
JAMES (calm)
Mrs. Shannon?
AMY SHANNON (worried)
What is it?
JAMES (stern, pulls out an empty whiskey bottle)
I found this under your bed.
AMY SHANNON (shocked)
I can explain everything. I needed it to get over the divorce, you know.
JAMES (sinister, full of pent-up anger, but oddly quiet)
I do not know, but I do know this. Alcohol does not help. It hinders your progress, and you have betrayed our trust, Mrs. Shannon. You have been stripped of your privileges.
AMY SHANNON (confused)
Am I disqualified?
JAMES (sinister)
You are no longer guaranteed a place in Heaven. You are out, out of this premise. You are no longer my adviser.
AMY SHANNON
My pay, where is it?
JAMES (laughing)
It'll be spent on the gas bill! (Throws a banana) Here, your lunch!
AMY SHANNON bends down, as she leaves, and grabs the banana. As she munches on it, JAMES whacks her over the head with the whiskey bottle and kills her.
JAMES (pulls out a dictaphone)
I am here to announce that my PR manager, Amy Shannon has committed suicide after being found with a bottle of whiskey. Public relations shall be reserved for a later period.
7. EXT. GARDEN, JAMESTOWN, BARANCA, DAY, 1979
CUT - We  see a loudspeaker playing JAMES' message.
CUT - We see a lush green lawn, a pond, some garden gnomes, in front of a WHITE MARBLE CHAPEL. We see EMANUELLE nude, lying on top of CANFIELD, having sex with him.
EMANUELLE (worried)
Isn't sex before marriage banned?
CANFIELD (matter of fact)
Were Adam and Eve married? No. And the ring of marriage that the Reverend James believes in is formed of two halves, a man and a woman.
As CANFIELD and EMANUELLE fornicate, a camel-uniformed BARANCAN SOLDIER jumps out and fires a rifle, and shoots an elderly AFRICAN-AMERICAN MAN. CANFIELD jumps up and kick the SOLDIER to a pulp.A BARANCAN MILITARY HELICOPTER flies past and sets alight to the WHITE MARBLE CHAPEL. BURNING CHILDREN run out and jump into the POND to put the fire out. The BARANCAN SOLDIER is shot by the machine-gun of his own MILITARY HELICOPTER.
CANFIELD (shocked)
It is the Barancan Army. They're trying to get us out of here, put pressure on us.
8. INT. EMANUELLE'S BEDROOM, JAMESTOWN, BARANCA, DAY, 1979
CUT - JAMES breaks in to the bland BEDROOM, littered with EMANUELLE's clothes and steals her CAMERA.
9. INT. GARDEN, JAMESTOWN, BARANCA, DAY, 1979
CUT - JAMES walks out with some newly developed photographs to EMANUELLE.
JAMES (curious)
Has the fleet left?
CANFIELD (nods)
Yes, but they might come back.
JAMES (hands photographs)
What are there?
EMANUELLE
They are of bodies found while we were passing. Who are they?
JAMES
They were members of the commune who betrayed me. They were expelled, but died soon after.
EMANUELLE (suspicious)
Why do they all die once they get expelled?
JAMES (pleading)
Blame the Barancans!
EMANUELLE (shouting, running)
It's your fault! Kill the Reverend!
EMANUELLE is chased by WHITE-SUITED GUARDS and runs over a FENCE.
JAMES (sinister)
The last you'll see of her, Canfield.
10. EXT. BARANCAN COUNTRYSIDE, DAY, 1979
CUT - EMANUELLE arrives in some marshes. A middle-aged, moustachioed, tall BARANCAN SOLDIER, MARQUEZ arrives.
MARQUEZ (salutes)
Miss Emanuelle, I am Colonel Marquez. I've been sent to rescue you.
EMANUELLE (worried)
Were you killing the escapees?
MARQUEZ (calm)
No, it was the Reverend's work.
EMANUELLE (confused)
Why did you attack the commune?
MARQUEZ (friendly)
but the attacks on the commune were unintended. They were used to try and scare them into leaving. It is not that we don't want tourists. We do. It is because James is a murderer, a blasphemer, in the disguise of a saint. He is indoctrinating them into believing a lie, a blasphemous lie. We need your help, Emanuelle, we need to save those Americans.
EMANUELLE
What about your hostages?
MARQUEZ
We have trained them in combat, and plan to smuggle them in. They will then aim to overthrow the Reverend James. We may need the help of the British Army too.
EMANUELLE (confused)
What happened to the tea ships?
MARQUEZ
Deliberately sunk, the tea secretly kept by the Reverend.
11. EXT. JAMESTOWN, BARANCA, DAY, 1979
CUT - A WHITE BUS arrives at the CHECKPOINT. The GUARDS smile and let it through. A BLOND AMERICAN in a check shirt and an AFRICAN-AMERICAN, CANFIELD's brother, CURTIS in a white shirt shoot rifles and kill the GUARDS. CANFIELD runs out.
CANFIELD (to CURTIS)
Curtis?
CURTIS (hugging CANFIELD, tender moment)
Yes, we've been sent to overthrow. The Rev is a fraudulent bastard!
CANFIELD (whispering)
I know. I've bad news.
EMANUELLE walks out, and notices pile of DEAD BODIES holding glasses of spilt KOOL-AID and banana peels.
EMANUELLE (horrified)
They're dead, all dead, even the children!
CANFIELD
Mass suicide, he said that the flood was coming early!
We see A BLONDE WOMAN and A CHILD running out, and gagging on cyanide.
CUT - A TEENAGE BOY picks up a pistol and blows his brain out.
CUT - A BLACK WOMAN pushes her hand holding a fork through an electric light, and is electrocuted, and immediately becomes a roasted skeleton. A snake crawls through her ribs.
CUT - Suddenly, the pale, gaunt JAMES walks out, dressed in his white robes splattered with blood.
JAMES (insanely joyous)
I see you have come to witness the Miracle of Jamestown.
EMANUELLE (hitting JAMES)
You bastard!
Suddenly, JAMES is shot through the chest. WILKIN peers through the gaping hole, holding a rifle in one hand and a banana in another.
EMANUELLE (amazed)
Wilkin!
WILKIN (serious)
We need to find the survivors! These bananas were already rotten for a year or so. Poison. No wonder he was feeding them these bananas.
CANFIELD
I didn't ate any of them. Found them tasteless and looked horrible enough.
CURTIS (laughing)
I spat mine out!
BARANCAN ARMY HELICOPTERS arrive, and then a BRITISH ARMY HELICOPTER ARRIVES. PRESIDENT VARGAS in typical BANANA REPUBLIC robes appears and shakes hand with EMANUELLE.
VARGAS (dubbed Spanish accent)
Thank you, Emanuelle.
A VOICE OVER is heard as the CREDITS ROLL.
VOICE OVER (BRITISH, V/O)
Amy Shannon's husband, Congressman Amos Shannon had died three weeks earlier, it has been discovered, on a previous investigation. It is believed that he was shot by GUARDS, while trying to convince his wife that she was lured into the cult of a madman. He was right.
THE END.
