Ella Thompson Holds A Weighty Desire In ‘Hold Me Still’ [Premiere]

Ella Thompson is a name you should know. A member of and collaborator with a variety of well-known Australian acts, most recently including Wild Honey Pie favorites Dorsal Fins, the Melbourne songstress has set off on a solo musical journey to release a bold and distinctive album that’s wholly her own. Named appropriately after the ancient Roman god of beginnings and transitions, Janus carves out massive pop tunes in walls of sound that reinforce Thompson’s strong vocals and melodies with layered textures.

“Hold Me Still” was the last song written for the album and the only one co-written. Working with Liam McGorry (Saskwatch, Eagle & The Worm, Dorsal Fins), she crafted a power ballad that serves as the deep breath between solid pop anthems. It’s Thompson’s voice that carries the weight and movement of the love song, drifting with force over the echoes of an oscillating two-note riff. Desire emanates from the delicate verses, the soaring howl of the chorus and all the spaces in between. Every repetition lets its sonic and emotional pull sink in deeper. Janus is out now!
