My cousin celebrated his eleventh birthday yesterday. The weather was perfect for pumpkin-decorating, playing an adults versus kids basketball game, jumping on the trampoline, and chasing their dog Junior through the wooded backyard.
But, it was only after my aunt's apple crisp with vanilla ice cream that it really, truly felt like fall. The sugar headache that followed (and the fact that I remember the day Jake was born as if it were yesterday) just made me feel old.
