El Carreton in Winchester, Indiana was recommended more than once to our family as a really great place.No sooner does the whisper of Mexican food reach my ears than we headed out the door and into this Randolph County Mexican restaurant!

As many of you know, my superhero weakness is Mexican food, chocolate, and Indiana wine, oh, and those great Hoosier bakeries! Okay, I apparently have a handful of weaknesses. But that’s okay, because El Carreton was fantastic from start to finish.
We were seated with an ample menu. I couldn’t decide at first so I began with a margarita. Yes, it was embarrassingly large and caused my husband to poke fun at me all evening. It was also excellent!
Our boys were easy: Kid #1 wanted a taco and Kid #2 ordered the quesadillas. But for the two of us, it wasn’t quite so quick! The menu is full of delicious sounding options.
Should we order the Pollo Loco just because it’s fun to say? Should we try a burrito, carnitas, or Chile Colorado, or Daniela’s Special? My husband claimed dibs on the Nachos Real while I finally decided on the Chimichanga Real.

Service is very fast and friendly at this Central Indiana restaurant! El Carreton was really busy but you wouldn’t have guessed it from the way our servers handled our stay and, for the record, I never reveal what I do until AFTER the meal is done.First things first: our boys dug into the fresh salsa and chips. Very good! When our orders arrived, they looked and smelled absolutely fantastic. We couldn’t wait to dig in!
Portions are large and nicely done. We were silent for a full five minutes!
