Edradour 10 Years is the flagship malt for the Edradour distillery owned by Andrew Symington who also owns the Signatory Vintage bottling company as well. In addition to their standard Edradour releases they also put out a peated whisky under the Ballechin line which isn’t a totally uncommon practice. Tobermory does the same thing and releases their peated whisky as Ledaig.

“The ten year old Edradour is handmade and one of the last Single Malt Whiskies from a traditional farm distillery still in production today. The methods of production remain virtually unchanged in the last 150 years and are only just capable of commercial quantities. Indeed Edradour Distillery makes as much whisky in a year as most distilleries produce in a week. A rare pleasure for a fortunate few.”
I got this Edradour 10 Years as part of a sample swap with some folks and I gotta tell you… I like it more than I thought I might given everything I’ve read about it. There’s a lot more going on in here than I expected which we’ll get into right now in the Edradour 10 Years review below.

EYE
Gold
NOSE
Honey, malt, nuts, golden raisins, vanilla and a light bit of fruit. Not dynamic, but nice.
PALATE
Toasted nuts, brown sugar, oatmeal-like grain, fruity custard and light bits of toffee, earth and char.
FINISH
Shortly lived spark of fruity custard, malt, smoke, vanilla, earth and and odd bit of oak.
BALANCE, BODY & FEEL
Carries a decent balance, medium body and warm easy feel.
OVERALL
Edradour 10 Years is decent sipping whisky. The nose is fairly standard and unassuming, but the palate kicks everything into gear and carries a richer character that keeps it from dwelling in the doldrums of whiskydom. It’s not what I’d call a complex whisky or even a daily drinker, but its close. It’s something I’d happily pull out and sip on from time-to-time. An occasional sipper if you will.
