Eco-Friendly Lawn Mowers for any Home

It’s time to start building your Christmas list, and you’ll want to include home appliances that meet your need for an eco-friendly home. Be sure to add a new lawn mower to your list. Gas powered lawn mowers do not include features that reduce smog. The Union of Concerned Scientists suggests one gallon of gas produces 20 pounds of carbon dioxide. That pollution is unhealthy for you and your neighbors. Ask for an eco-friendly mower this year, and bring peace to the earth as you groom your green outdoor living space.

Cordless Rechargeable Mowers

Quiet and emissions-free, a rechargeable electric mower simplifies your lawn mowing chores. It doesn’t require a bulky cord and operates smoothly with hand controls rather than a gear shifter. Buy one that includes multiple batteries if you have a large lawn. In addition to not producing any emissions, it also doesn’t create harmful fumes.

Corded Electric Mowers

Cleaner than gas, plug in an electric mower for a manicured lawn. Corded mowers push easily since they don’t have a heavy battery. They’re also more affordable than the cordless models, but be careful to avoid running over the cord. If your lawn is large, you may need multiple outdoor outlets or a heavy duty outdoor extension cord to reach the corners without harming the environment.

Solar-Powered Mowers

With no dependence on gas or oil, solar powered mowers harness the plentiful summer sun. They are easy to use and produce a lush, eco-friendly lawn.

Automatic Electric Solar-Powered Hybrid Mower

With advanced technology, robotic mowers take the manual labor out of lawn mowing. Designed to navigate and cut automatically, it avoids obstructions like lawn furniture and gardens. The machine mows for awhile then stops to recharge before resuming its duties. Your lawn stays beautiful with no effort from you. While the cost may be higher for an automatic mower, this eco-friendly appliance saves you time and effort.

Reel Mowers

Also known as manual or push mowers, a reel mower is quiet and virtually maintenance-free. The Scotts 20” mower from Sears includes a cutting height adjustment, generous cutting width and sturdy wheels.

Before buying a reel mower, remember that it operates more slowly than a gas powered mower. If you spend 45 minutes mowing your lawn with a gas powered mower, you’ll spend 60 to 70 minutes mowing your lawn with a reel mower. It also will not cut tall grass or weeds like dandelions. As you keep the mower blades sharp, however, you can keep your lawn manicured and lush.

Eco-Friendly Accessories

Your green lawn mower protects the environment, but don’t forget the other lawn maintenance tools you need. Buy green trimmers, hedgers and mulchers to keep your lawn looking its best without excess fumes or noise.

Likewise, forgo a mower bagger. Grass clippings compost and add valuable nutrients to your lawn. You won’t need dangerous pesticides or chemicals to keep your lawn looking its best.

Mowing the lawn can be an eco-friendly activity when you use a mower that’s not gas powered. Give your loved ones or yourself a new electric, solar, reel or robotic mower this Christmas. With less harmful emissions and decreased noise, they produce peace on earth and a lush lawn in your outdoor living space.
