Eating Out: Bundobust Leeds Revisited

By Natalie Tamara @thetofudiaries

Is there anything more exciting than hearing that one of your favorite vegetarian restaurants is adding new dishes to their menu?

New menu at Bundobust Leeds

Last week, Bundobust, purveyors of vegetarian and vegan Indian street food, launched their latest additions to their menu in the form of five brand new dishes. I won’t introduce Bundobust again as I have already raved profusely about them in the past (you can read all about one of my past visits to Bundobust Leeds here) and will instead dive right in with what’s new on their menu.

Biriyani balls at Bundobust

All five dishes are vegetarian and gluten-free with three also being vegan (marked ‘ve’ below).

Biryani Bhaji Balls (ve)

Billed as arancini meets biryani, these are perfectly formed balls of rice and spice with a hint of rose, fried and served with a rich spicy tomato sauce.

Punjabi Hadhi

This calls itself a soup on the menu, but it’s doing itself an injustice; the crowning glory here is the gobi bhaji dumplings! They come served on a “soup” made from yoghurt cooked with onions, coriander seeds and ginger – a perfect dip for the bhajis.

Paneer & Mushroom Tikka

Though this is exactly as it sounds, it was easily the highlight of the new menu. The marinated cubes of paneer and whole mushrooms are accompanied by grilled peppers, red pepper ketchup and a spinach chutney.

Tarka Dhal & Rice (ve)

A classic lentil curry (dhal) served with basmati rice, this dish was tasty and felt more nourishing than the other more indulgent items but it was less unique. I’d happily eat this on any given day, however with so many other dishes on offer, I couldn’t see myself ordering it that often in Bundobust.

Chole Bhatura (ve)

This curry of chickpeas in a rich onion and tomato sauce is served with gorgeous Indian flatbread. A great dish to add a few more vegetables to the mix but still with the treat of the soft (gluten-free!) flatbread.

In Manchester? Never fear – Bundobust are heading your way in 2016; follow them on Twitter for updates!

I was invited to Bundobust to try out the new dishes on their menu, but I paid for all drinks myself and have paid for plenty of meals at Bundobust in the past!
