Eat Like a Ninja – Misu

By Rohit Dassani

Misu is a Pan Asian restaurant situated in St. Marks Road, Bangalore and is from the same house as ‘The Open Box’. Misu offers South East Asian cuisines like Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese and Malaysian. The interiors are quirky with most of the furniture done in copper and mirrors on the top. There is even a large wall painting on one side which represents a lady with different colored eyes. By evening the place transforms into a place for wanderlust with dim lights and colorful glasses.

The meal kicks off with Bandrek which is an Indonesian herbal beverage. The drink can be served both hot as well as cold and is made out of coconut milk, lemongrass, cinnamon, cardamom, ginger, star anise and jaggery. Let me tell you that this drink is damn refreshing. All the spices combine with the coconut milk giving it a very different taste. We also ordered The Hakka and Honey Mango Margarita from the regular menu. The Honey Mango Margarita had a subtle taste of honey and was made with Mango puree. The Hakka was made in Lychee Juice and coconut syrup along with Passion fruit and lime juice. The taste was fantastic.

Coming back to the Ninja menu we ordered the Tom Kha Soup and Green Mango Salad. The Tom Kha soup is made with Coconut milk, galangal, kaffir lime leaves, lemongrass, Thai Chilies, Mushrooms and lime juice. The soup is a blast of different flavors. If you haven’t tried Tom Kha Soup before, then you must definitely try some. The Raw Mango salad had a honey lemon dressing and was tossed with Thai Red chilies and cashew nuts. The Cashew Nuts gave this salad a very different twist. This salad is a quick eat.

The Crispy Fried Wantons had Bok Choy and Mushrooms inside. The wantons were crispy from the sides and as you give to the center you find a moist filling. The wantons go really well with the Sweet Chili sauce. Next we had the Moonshine Dumplings filled with Bok Choy and Mushroom. These dumplings are moon-shaped and are served with different sauces like Vietnamese Chili sauce, Black Bean sauce and the Sweet Chili sauce. The Misu Bao are filled with Pickled cucumber, carrot and lettuce are topped with sweet/sour/spicy home-made sauce. We also had the Spicy Tofu Maki filled with avocado, cucumber, lettuce.
