Early Box Office: ‘Spy’ and ‘Insidious’ Both Nail 1.5M on Thursday

Both Melissa McCarthy’s new comedy Spy and the Insidious sequel nabbed 1.5M in Thursday evening previews. That should put them neck and neck, but Friday early reporting is showing Spy headed for an 11-13M Friday, and a 34-37M opening weekend. Insidious will be more frontloaded on Friday, with 10-11.5M today, and a gross around 22-25M for the three day period. Entourage seems to be on track for 12-15M.

Last weekend’s number one pick San Andreas is still performing really well, and will have a strong 2nd weekend of 28-30M. A trio of flicks are on point to gross between 8-10M right now, with Pitch Perfect 2, Tomorrowland, and Mad Max: Fury Road all doing about the same. In limited release, Love and Mercy seems to have solid word of mouth headed into the weekend.
