Dumplings and More at Yauatcha

By Rohit Dassani

Yauatcha is a Michelin Star Dimsum and Dumplings teahouse originating from London. Situated on the top floor of 1MG Mall, the restaurant in Bangalore is no different than its London counterpart. To honor their rich Chinese heritage, Yauatcha recently launched the Dragon Boat Festival across all its locations in India. The festival is more than 2000 years old and include festivities like drinking rice wine, dragon boat race and celebration with family and friends. The ambiance at Yauatcha is clean and vibrant. The restaurant is open from three sides giving it an extraordinary look from the large glass windows, while the kitchen is open and lets you quickly connect with your food!

To honor this tradition Yauatcha has introduced a limited edition menu including sticky rice dishes, a dessert and an exclusive cocktail. The festival started from the 1st of June until the end of this month. We tried a few items from the menu like the Citrus Spritz cocktail which is a rare combination between vodka and wine with subtle taste of lime. We also tried the Sticky Rice in Lotus Leaf with Asparagus, a zongzi dish made in Lotus Leaf with Asparagus inside. The taste is very different than something that you would have ever tried. Next we had the Sticky Rice in Lotus Leaf with Edamame and Vegetarian Duck, the vegetarian duck might be overwhelming if you’re trying for the first time but it’s made from soy and wheat. The dish is in a pyramid shaped dumpling and is one of the main attractions at this festival.

If you are at Yauatcha don’t forget to try their dumplings from their regular menu like the Veg Peking Dumplings. The taste of this dumpling in simply fantastic. For the dessert we tried the Wine Soaked water Chestnut and Mango Cake with Sauvignon Sorbet. The Mango Cake was close to a cheesecake while the Sauvignon sorbet was a perfect complimentary dish.
