Moringa Leaves Dal is a popular recipe from Bihar, Bengal and also known as Murungakeerai paruppu in South India. This is a nutrition packed lentil stew that is a rich source of proteins, vitamins etc. Dal with Moringa greens is made with cooked drumstick leaves, Masoor Dal, and very few other ingredients that give it a raw but savory flavor. Drumstick leaves dal has many health benefits and often served with steam rice.

Ingredients List For Drumstick Leaves Dal

  • 2 cups of Drumstick leaves /moringa leaves
  • 3/4 Cup Of Masoor Dal
  • 1 pinch of asafoetida
  • 1/2 tsp of cumin seeds
  • 4 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 1 Chopped Green Chillies
  • 1/2 Tsp Turmeric
  • Salt To Taste
  • Mustard Oil
  • 1 Tbsp Ginger-Garlic-Green Chilli Paste

Method To Make Easy Drumstick Leaves Recipe

  • Separate only the leaves from the bunch of Drumstick Leaves. Make sure you don’t take any woody parts as they won’t cook well.
  • Clean and wash the Drumstick Leaves with tap water thoroughly.
  • Add the leaves in the pressure cooker with washed Masoor Dal, Turmeric Powder, Salt, ½ Tbsp Ginger-Garlic-Green Chilli and 2 ½  cups water.
  • Let it boil and cover to wait for 1 whistles on high flame.
  • Reduce the flame to the minimum & let it cook for another 10 minutes.
  • Open the pressure cooker with dal-moringa leaves. Mash a bit and simmer if needed.
  • For tempering of Moringa Dal- Heat mustard oil in a tempering ladle, add asafoetida, cumin seeds. Let it crackle.
  • Then add the chopped garlic and chillies followed by ½ Tbsp. Ginger-Garlic-Green Chilli Paste.
  • Serve this delicious hot Dal with plain steam rice/ rotis.
