I do not know about you but the first weak sun and the warmer temperatures make me want to do some day trips for Spring time. So I close my eyes and I think where I want to be “teleported” today. I'd like to take a walk to the Castle of Donnafugata , in Sicily where the weather is warmer. So please close your eyes and imagine being there with me for a walk . The Sicilian air smells of almond trees blooming this season. We are near Ragusa and the sun is hot . The majestic castle lightly colored stands before us. How can we define its architecture ? Eclectic ! From Venetian Gothic to Baroque style . Thanks to Corrado Arezzo , a man of great culture and lover of the arts , the castle became his shelter from his troubled life - he lost both his wife and daughter .

Do you remember the movie il Gattopardo ( Luchino Visconti, 1963) ? The tale is set in Donnafugata . Well, I'm sorry to disappoint you , my friends but Luchino Visconti did not shoot his movie here . The castle was not safe and then the set could not be there. What about go and visit it ? Today we can visit 20 rooms even though there are 120 rooms! Not bad for a country house! We will go to its park – it is one of the few still existing valuable historic gardens and well-preserved in Sicily. We are lucky today, it is a sunny day . What a gorgeous place out of this world! Even if the set was not the Donnafugata castle but Palazzo Ganci in Palermo. Here the famous action of the walzer between Principe Salina ( Burt Lancaster) and Angelica (Claudia Cardinale, a wonderful Italian actress) . Non so voi, ma il primo timido sole e le temperature più miti mi fanno venire voglia di fare delle gita primaverili. Così ho chiuso gli occhi ed ho pensato dove avrei voluto essere teletrasportata oggi. Mi piacerebbe passeggiare al Castello di Donnafugata, nella ancora più mite Sicilia. Così vi invito a chiudere gli occhi ed immaginare di essere là con me a fare una passeggiata. L’aria siciliana profuma di mandorli in fiore in questa stagione. Siamo nell’entroterra Di Ragusa e il sole è caldo. Davanti a noi si erge maestoso il castello dai colori chiari. Come potremmo definire la sua architettura? Eclettica! Dal gotico veneziano al barocco. Grazie a Corrado Arezzo, uomo di grande cultura ed amante delle arti, il castello divenne il suo luogo di rifugio dalla sua vita travagliata, perse figlia consorte. Vi viene in mente il film il Gattopardo? Il racconto Mi spiace amici deludervi ma Luchino Visconti non girò qui il suo film. Il castello allora non era restaurato e non avrebbe potuto ospitare il set. Che ne dite entriamo a visitarlo? Oggi possiamo visitarne 20 anche se le stanze totali sono 120! Residenza di campagna! Non ci perderemo il parco: è uno dei pochi giardini storici di pregio tuttora esistenti e ben conservati in Sicilia. La giornata di sole accompagnerà la nostra passeggiata.
