Down Payment Resource: Opening Doors to Home Ownership

By Homesmsp @HomesMSP

The dream of homeownership, like any subject viewed through multiple lenses, is one of great conjecture and discussion in recent years. From The Week suggesting the dream needs to be killed, to MSNBC touting its everlasting life, from millennials “dragging down homeownership” to Boomers lacking suitable housing in major cities across the country, it’s anyone’s guess where the market might go. Regardless, the benefits of homeownership have stood the test of time, and most adults would do well to invest in real estate.

Commonly, however, the down payment can be a hurdle standing in the way of realizing the dream. In most states, and especially in major cities, special programs exist, including mortgages and grants, to ease the struggle of buying a first home, and may be based on income limits and geographic area. Historically, the challenge has been figuring out the programs that apply to specific homes, neighborhoods, and cities. A new website, Down Payment Resource, now easily and quickly determines the programs available to you, based on your criteria.

The process is simple, just input basic information into the eligibility form (don’t worry, info isn’t sold to third party vendors), the robot will search, and deliver all the homebuyer assistance programs for which you may be eligible, and information such as:

  • The total number of homebuyer programs available to you
  • The name of each program
  • The amount of down payment assistance available
  • How to use this information when shopping for a home
  • Your next steps to learn more and apply for the program
