Melbourne five piece Foreign/National are here to ease your Monday anguish with their latest track, “Life Tourist”. As it turns out, the irresistible and highly danceable breeziness of the song is deceptive since its subject material isn’t light at all. “What’s your motherfucking problem?” begins the chorus and our first inclination that everything isn’t all sunshine after all. Here’s the curious story behind “Life Tourist”:

“As we sat in the back of her stepfather’s BMW, I listened to her speak a language I didn’t understand. I could tell she was sick. I wanted to care for her, but by the time we had left for Bilbao, I realized I had no fucking idea what I was doing. The car stopped. To my right, there was glass on the road and the unmistakable outline of a covered body. The paramedic waved us on. She looked at me in the rearview mirror and casually dropped back into English, ‘I wish that was me.’”

So there you have it – absolutely dark while also chill as hell. It seems Foreign/National are crafting addictive pop hooks with depth and totally nailing it. After twelve months, three singles and thousands of plays, Foreign/National will bring us their debut EP this month at last. Listen to their latest, “Life Tourist”, above and definitely be on the lookout for that EP.
