Dortmund Take Giant Step Towards Repeating

By Simplyfutb01 @simplyjuan11

The matchup between Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich promised to be the most exciting match of the season. There was so much on the line, especially for Bayern, that this was the statement game that could be the beginning of the end for Jupp Heynckes. Well, it did guarantee Manuel Neuer to get some bananas thrown at him.

Ok, maybe that is a little bit exaggerated as they still have to face Real Madrid in the Champions League semis. Yet for FC Hollywood to be denied the league title for a second consecutive year would have drama unleashed to a lesser extent- for now.

The reality of the moment was the both teams were well aware and the match was played extremely close to the vest until Robert Lewandowski’s goal made him the first Dortmund player in 20 years to score 20 goals in a season. The last player to do so was none other than the legendary Swiss striker Stéphane Chapuisat back in the 1991-92 season. His heel flick into the back of the net was just part of the drama unleashed at Signal Iduna Park on Wednesday.

Yet outside of the successes of Dortmund, the big storyline was the inaccuracies of Arjen Robben. The Dutch international was not on his best night to say the least hitting a penalty kick that would have equalized the affair in the 84th minute and also missing a shot from inside the six, despite having Mats Hummels on top of him.
