Donovan Wolfington – ‘Ollie North’ Stream Review

Donovan Wolfington Topshelf Records

It’s been far too long since we covered one of the bands from the TopShelf Records roster. When we came across Donovan Wolfington and their awesome Into It. Over It.-meets-Alkaline Trio punk racket, we couldn’t resist writing about and sharing their new single ‘Ollie North’. As the words ‘take yourself away’ are screamed time and time again, the melodies recall Real Estate but with the guitars turned up and also the edgy spirit of Sorority Noise.

As the song reaches its final ebb, a riff straight out of the Rocket From the Crypt notebook comes to the fore, while a feedback-drenched breakdown signals a dramatic climax. Discussing real issues, there’s a college-esque feeling to the song which gives it some personal weight. Definitely one to watch out for.
