Dominique Bistro, Greenwich Village

By Bigcitylittleblog @feakins

Nestled in the heart of Greenwich Village at the intersection of Christopher and Gay Street, you'll find a quaint French bistro qui s'appelle Dominique.

The artisan menu boasts classic dishes like soufflés, bouillabaisse, beef bourguignon, and chateaubriand.

Always the Francophile, I headed over on a cloudy, wintery day to check out their fare.

A perfect little spot for a weekend brunch or an evening out, the space is cozy and rustic and dotted with pretty details.

We started the meal with a unique take on foie gras.

Served with a crispy Belgian waffle, sliced apples, and a sour cherry reduction, it was the perfect combination of salty and sweet. Just enough flavor to whet the appetite!

We moved onto a beautifully balanced plate of grilled octopus (my favorite!) accompanied with fingerling potatoes, chickpeas, salty salami, and lightly dressed frisée.

The octopus was cooked perfectly, which gave off a tender yet meaty texture.

Finally, we settled on a classic French onion soup paired with the croque madame.

It was the perfect dish to warm us up on this dreary day. The bubbling cheese and gooey egg yolk were so satisfying.

Accompanied by a fresh cup of coffee for him and a crisp glass of rosé for me, the hubby and I ended our little lunch date with a hefty plate of chocolate mousse.

Light and decadent, it was the perfect ending to a perfect lunch date.

Overall, Dominique Bistro serves classic dishes where the quality ingredients are lightly seasoned and allowed to shine.
