This island in one of the most popular winter destinations in the northern hemisphere. The Dominican Republic is part of the island of Hispaniola with Haiti occupy the western section and while the territory is on the eastern section. It is west of Puerto Rico. These two islands are the second and third largest Spanish speaking island in the Caribbean.  However, you will find that many of the Dominican Republic vacations resort have excellent multilingual staffs that will significantly reduce the communication barrier when visiting the territory.  
Dominican Republic is part of the group of island that are grouped as the Greater Antilles. These are islands have the largest area of beaches in the Caribbean. The exciting sports of canoeing main take place in Jarabacoa and Cabarete. These are two contrasting destinations. Cabarete is on the coast of the territory which Jarabacoa is in the interior of the island. These two destinations do not only offer great opportunities to participate in canoeing, but there are great options in the areas of hiking, wading, jumping, and swimming. Moreover, while participating in these activities visitors will get the opportunity to tour lovely caves, waterfalls, lovely pools and lush tropical vegetation.
Cabarete is also a good destination for windsurfing as well. In fact, it is the most popular place to windsurf in the territory. For visitors thinking about surfing adventure in the country the north coast of the island is the best place. Playa Grande and Playa Preciosa are two of the best places to surf on the north coast and the best period of the year to surf is between December to April. Scuba diving and snorkeling can also be done on the north coast of the territory as well. These are some of the various popular locations for guest to enjoy their Dominican Republic vacations. 
The Dominican Republic has a colorful history with both French and Spanish dominance. It colonial history shows that is was one of the first islands that the European first choose to settle. You can therefore see why the two territories that occupy the land mass are both French and Spanish speaking territories. For visitors wanting a vacation experience with a Spanish flavor the different opportunities that are available for visitors to enjoy the Dominican Republic vacations are countless.  However, there is a visa requirement for some visitors to the island. Nevertheless, the territory have lovely attractions like Columbus Lighthouse Monument, Samana Bay, Damajaqua Cascades, Cabarete, and the Punta Cana Beaches which are really great places on the island to visit.
