More likely because they are lazy and they’ve given up hope in life. I can’t really understand these people who live in section 8 and whatnot. It seems like they should try anything, work at home stuff, get more academic or vocational education (if they got SSI the government will pay), anything to make some cash. Maybe a lot of them are on drugs. In that case, all they care about is drugs, so they’ve given up ambition. Most of the time these people seem to just lay around and watch TV, maybe sometimes they might play basketball. What kind of life is this?

Most people around here on Section 8 housing are working. If you have $1,000/month coming in, you can still get Section 8 for a single person. It goes up more if it’s two people or if you have kids. I think if you have 4 kids, you can still get Section 8 if you make up to $28,000/yr. I do not know about other areas, but I know some people on Section 8 around here, and most of them are working. A lot of the Section 8 people around here are a Mexican guy, his wife and their little kids. Usually in those families at least the man works a lot.

A lot of the people on disability around here work too. They work under the table though because the government takes away too much of it if you report it. The White people I knew getting Food Stamps were working too. One was working full time.

I know one woman on Disability who doesn’t work, but she spends most of her days taking care of her daughter’s grand-kids, so she is a full-time stay at home Mom in a way. She’s also retired.

I know another woman on Disability who doesn’t work, but to be completely honest, she is in very shape and honestly I do not think she can work at a regular job at all. She could probably do odd jobs for friends or family with flexible hours, but I am not she even wants to do that. She is on Disability for mental stuff. The people on for mental stuff are some of the worst off of all, and I honestly cannot imagine a lot of them working at all. They simply cannot function at all. Some of them are hospitalized on a fairly routine basis, regularly stop eating, sleeping or even taking care of their places, etc.

I know people on Disability who are desperate for work, but it has to be both under the table and something they are capable of doing.

Most people trying to survive on these programs are either relying on family to help them out financially or working under the table. It’s not so much that they want to work, but it’s that you literally cannot survive on these programs. If you want to be able to pay your bills, drive a car and certain other basic things while on these programs, you will have to work under the table because you simply cannot get by on the programs. Those who do not work have family with money who come to the rescue quite regularly.
