DIY: Maxi To Mini

By Sars @RockinAroundThe

J’adore a voluminous mini.

Spring Skirt

After giving maxi’s a try, I’ve realized that they are so not my thing.  No matter what the maxi looks like, I feel like I’m rocking maternity wear… and that simply won’t do.  I love the look of tulle skirts but they’re expensive, and there’s a fine line between chic and juvenile.  A voluminous mini can give you the same feel as a tulle skirt, all grown up.  Here’s how to turn your maxi’s into mini’s, no sewing required!

Maxi To Mini

You’ll need a maxi dress/skirt, and a glue gun.  My skirt is from Target (last year).  I loved the color, but not the length… plus the skirt was practically sheer.

No Sew Spring Skirt

Turn your maxi inside out.  Use bobby pins to fold the skirt up, and secure it.  There will likely be excess fabric, that’s ok.  If you’re using a skirt with an elastic waist, put it on (on the widest part of your body) then pin.

Gets ta gluin.  Start with the excess fabric in between each pin.  Carefully place glue on the waist area and press the fabric down, do this in one to two-inch increments.  The waist area will most likely not be smooth on the inside, it will look a little bunched.  When you’re finished gluing (I used about three mini glue sticks), flip the skirt right side out and werq it.

I’m in love with skirt now, it’s shockingly versatile.  Glue guns are the bomb.
