Before I new this book was on the list of books I needed to read for class, I had heard it was a good book. It is along the same lines as Hunger Games, yet different, and I really like Hunger Games. Needless to say, I was pretty gungho to start reading Divergent!

Beatrice grew up in a faction dedicated to selflessness. She barely looks at herself because of the selfish act of vanity that would cause. Factions are split into five virtues that are supposed to balance each other out. The factions are Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent).

By the time you turn 16 you must choose a faction to live in for the rest of your life. If you choose a faction you didn’t grow up in, then you face being disowned by your family. Beatrice is conflicted with her choice and doesn’t get any help from the intense testing that is supposed to reveal where they belong.

Through out the book, Beatrice begins to recognize the faults in her society. Even after her choice, she still struggles to understand where she belongs and finally recognizes that she is not like everyone else, but must keep it a secret. Her unique circumstance could kill her, or help save everyone.

Another good reason to read the book now is they are coming out with a the movie March 2014
