Dewey's 24 HR Read-A-Thon...IT'S TIME!!

By Bookaholic @BookReflections
Final Update and Reflection
Unfortunately, I didn't make it all the way through.  I fell asleep during hour 23 :(  But I was really proud of myself.  I got my class reading done and read a couple books for fun.  I haven't done that for like...forever.
Some thoughts:
1.  I thought it would be easier than it was and I didn't put adequate thought into my plans.  It's the kind of thing where you say "I'm going to read for 24 hours" and people are like "cool." But they keep asking if you want to go places or try to talk to you.  That didn't work because I got tired of saying the same thing over and over again.  Next time I will seclude myself or just be around other readers.
2.  I picked short books because that was the recommendation but I should have picked the book I was dying to read.  Which was The Bronze Horseman (almost 700 pages).  In the end, I had fun because I was reading for fun but I couldn't stop thinking about that book.
3.  Finally... Reading for 24 hours is much harder than it sounds : ) It really takes a commitment, support from fellow bloggers, cheerleaders, and support from the wonderful team from Dewey's Read-a-Thon.  Thanks everyone for helping me with this!
I read 3 books and finished reading for 3 out of 4 classes.  I stayed awake reading for 22.5 hours.
Update: Starting Hour 18!  (Sorry for such a huge lapse...I was away from the computer)
I finished A Separate Peace and I am currently reading When Breaks the Dawn by Janette Oke.  This wasn't on my original list, but I grabbed it anyway.  I'm not feeling tired but I am feeling a bit lonely :( I'm a punk. You can find my reading list here!
Dewey's 24 HR Read-A-Thon...IT'S TIME!!Update: Starting Hour 12 (wow)!

Mid-Event Survey:
1. What are you reading right now? I am currently reading A Separate Peace
2. How many books have you read so far? I've only read one book, but I got tons of class reading done.3. What book are you most looking forward to for the second half of the Read-a-thon?  I am
looking forward to all of them because they will be fun reading instead of school reading.  You can find my list here.4. Did you have to make any special arrangements to free up your whole day? Nope.  I just had to get extra snacks and get comfy.5. Have you had many interruptions? How did you deal with those? I had some interruptions but I just allowed the disruption.  Life happens sometimes.
6. What surprises you most about the Read-a-thon, so far? It's going by so quickly!7. Do you have any suggestions for how to improve the Read-a-thon next year? Everything is so great!8. What would you do differently, as a Reader or a Cheerleader, if you were to do this again next year? Pick more snacks :)!  I would also sign up to host challenges they seem fun.  A little too hard for me though.9. Are you getting tired yet? Not yet.10. Do you have any tips for other Readers or Cheerleaders, something you think is working well for you that others may not have discovered? Just keep it up :)Update: Starting Hour 8, Whoohoo!
I'm currently reading Creed's Honor by Linda Lael Miller.  I took a break from reading for class because I felt like I was missing out on the fun.  When I finish this one, I will start another "fun" book then go back to reading for class.
Don't forget to comment and let me know you stopped by!
Update: Hour 3 Down, Starting Hour 4
I'm currently reading: James B. Stewart,Eight Days,The New Yorker, Sep. 21, 2009.  (SEE THE REST OF MY READING LIST HERE)  It's for class but I am enjoying it.  It details the conversations and events the weekend before the 2008 financial crisis in the U.S.  I know I'm a nerd but it is really really good.  It's like reading a soap opera and I love drama.
Dewey's 24 HR Read-A-Thon...IT'S TIME!!Hour 1 Questions and Answers:
1)  Where are you reading from today?  Houston, TX
2)  Three random facts about me… I'm not a morning person (which is why I didn't feel like posting earlier), I have a weird phobia of cats, and my favorite color is purple
3)  How many books do you have in your TBR pile for the next 24 hours? I have 6 and some class reading
4)  Do you have any goals for the read-a-thon (i.e. number of books, number of pages, number of hours, or number of comments on blogs)?  My goal is to read. lol. I really want to finish as many books as I can enjoy myself.
5)  If you’re a veteran read-a-thoner, any advice for people doing this for the first time? Not a veteran read-a-thoner, but I am inspired to be one :)
