A 33 year old Desloge man has died in a two-vehicle accident on Missouri Route 8, east of Hunt Street. According to the article, the Desloge, Missouri man was driving a 1988 Chevrolet Cavalier when he attempted to overtake a 1993 Ford Econoline 35 and lost control around 9:30 p.m. on Saturday night. The Cavalier skidded sideways and struck the front of the Econoline. The collision caused the Cavalier to travel off the side of the roadway and down a steep embankment.
While the driver of the Cavalier was killed, his 34 year old passenger, a Park Hills, Missouri man is listed in serious condition at Mercy Hospital in Creve Coeur.
The article did not report whether anyone in the Econoline was injured. After an auto accident where there is a fatality or serious and/or catastrophic injuries, victims or families of victims should visit with an expert motor vehicle accident personal injury attorney just to be sure that they are proceeding correctly in negotiating with insurance companies. After a death of a loved one or while recovering from a serious injury, victims and their families have all they can do to try to “right the ship” so to speak. Lives are forever changed by tragic car accidents and it is not something that you have to go through alone.
If I could give one piece of advice to victims and their families? “Do not sign anything, especially a release, from any insurance company right away”. Often the extent of your injuries or loss will not even be evident for many days if not months, so quickly signing a release from an insurance company can cause you to not receive compensation that you deserve and need down the road.
First, if you have been involved in a serious auto accident or truck accident and if you are seriously injured, you are probably on pain medication and should not be making decisions about your future. As well, the shock of the situation does not put you in the best situation to make long term decisions.
When families lose a member of their family in an auto accident, they are not thinking clearly either. Long term or life changing decision should be well thought out and put off making big decisions until you are thinking more clearly.
