What are the first things that you think of when you hear the words "tourist" and "style"??
I can only imagine.
I conjure up images of ill-fitting capri pants, teva sport sandals (the originals ..... not the new generation), poorly chosen sun hats, backpacks and Oakley sunglasses! I do not think of this:
Tourist style at the #EXPO2015 - HOW TO DRESS IN ITALY !
Now, THIS is a tourist who knows how to dress stylishly while on vacation! I've written before about the importance of dressing up on vacation here. I noticed this German tourist a few weeks back at the EXPO in Milan. She looked so perfectly put together and COMFORTABLE, even though she was also fashionable. Even more fashionable than me!! This is what I wore to the EXPO.
I noticed her at the incredible China Pavillion. It was air conditioned inside, but very hot outside, and this tourist was cool in her sleeveless designer tank and harem pants and yet covered enough to not be bothered by the air conditioning.
This year's EXPO, is located in Milan, the the Tradeshow part of the city a short train ride away from the city centre. Many (thousands) or tourists stay in the centre of the city and take the train directly to the EXPO. At 6 / 7 pm when they take the train back to their hotels they often go out for dinner and a drink. THIS WOMAN is perfectly dressed for daytime EXPO exploring AND an evening cocktail or dinner. Plus, she's definitely not an eyesore!
What She Wore
You know when you can tell that someone's clothes are expensive just by looking at them? That's the feeling this woman gave me. Her elastic embellished top with geometric and cut out detailing didn't exactly give me the discount vibe! And paired with her harem pants and those GREAT white rubber sports grip SANDALS, she looked liked a fashion spread for Grazia!
Wedges = Mom Heels
Let's focus on her shoes for a moment. I LOVE THEM. They are totally trending right now with their white rubber soles, but they are not flat-forms (flat platforms), which I find shorten the leg and are generally unflattering to anyone that is not wafer thin.
This woman was at the EXPO in a large family group with a few older aged kids. I didn't strike up a conversation with her, as I normally do for my mom street style photos because I wasn't sure if she would understand me (although ALL GERMANS SPEAK ENGLISH) and say no to the photo-op! Although I didn't see her chasing around young kids, these wedges could easily be worn by a mom who is!!
In fact, the only pair of shoes with "height" that I can get away with these days are these brown leather wedges that I styled in this look for a dinner out in Cervia but also wore to the playground with my son!

Her style portrayed an expensive, well-curated image. I LOVE trying to get a look for less! Now that I'm a mom life is more expensive because I have a person I care for more than myself to take care of!! That doesn't mean that I don't need and want to splurge on myself, it just means I need to shop smartly to dress well, hence my whole theory about FASHION FORESIGHT (where I predict future fashion trends and try to find the same items on sale!)
