The Rings Cycle – Your Historic Sporting Fact of the Day from The Daily Constitutional in London

Sunday 5th Tennis
Between the 1924 and 1988 Olympiads, tennis was absent from the Olympic programme. In between times it had featured as a demonstration sport in 1968 and 1984. In Paris 1924 all the tennis gold medals went to the USA. When the sport came back into the fold at Seoul 1988, the Americans took two of the four golds on offer – men’s and women’s doubles – with the singles titles going to Germany (Steffi Graf) and Czechoslovakia (Miloslav Mečíř).
