So what does the six geese a-laying mean?
Christmas is midwinter feast filled with food and delicacies such as almonds and chocolates. Animals are prevalent in the carol – The Twelve days of Christmas, we have a partridge, turtle doves, calling birds, French hens, geese, and swans.
A couple of years ago there was a virtual message that the song had a hidden meaning and the animals in the carol do not refer to the food that they might provide us with or end up as.
It was suggested that the six geese a-laying refers to the six days of creation.
The historical evidence for this suggestion may be limited but it can provide inspiration was ideas, which is the main purpose with using this carol in this thinking challenge.
The creation of land and animal can be contrasted with the amount of food we eat during the festive season. Here we can rethink the way we shop and prepare food.
But we can also shift the perspective and look at the Festive Season from an animal’s perspective.
