In late 1793 Georges Danton (Gerard Depardieu) returns to Paris to discover his once helmed Committee of Public Safety has begun issuing death sentences by guillotine en masse at the hand of his successor and once friend Maximilien Robespierre (Wojciech Pszoniak). Taking on the committee with his band of loyal supporters, they soon find themselves jailed, on trial, and facing that quite decisive blade.
