Dangers of Hacking and How to Protect Yourself from Cyber Attacks

It’s like they say, “It’s better to be safe than sorry”. The best way to avoid hackers is to take control of your own privacy and security. Follow the correct methods and always try to stay away from malicious websites. The antivirus software provider, Norton recently released a brilliant interactive infographic dubbed “The Hitchhikers Guide to Hacking“. It details the history and dangers of hacking, as well as a few methods to protect yourself from hackers. Here are a few slides that I found to be interesting.

Did you know that the world’s first recorded hack takes us back to 1930s, when Alan Turing deciphered messages sent by Nazis using the ‘Enigma’. Although, the modern-day hacking was born back in 1960s starting with hacking a model train set.

Despite being the most technologically advanced country in the world, the U.S houses only 4.7% of hackers in the world. On the other hand, China seems to be a paradise for hackers with a whopping 40% hackers in the country.

Hacking doesn’t always mean someone accessing your files on your computer or messing around with your softwares. Sometimes, it could even pose a threat to your identity when you give away your personal information such as credit card info, address, id numbers to pharming websites.

From setting up your Wi-Fi network to choosing a proper browser, you can take precautions to avoid these hacker attacks. Take your online security seriously and take every step to protect yourself.
