By Ohsocynthia @OhSoCynthia
Dallas is full of colorful characters. There are those you see monthly in the society pages, whose stories are legendary in this town. But, this feature is inspired by the people that I think you should know more about because of their fabulous style, interesting back-story or amazing accomplishments.  Dallas Dweller seeks to introduce you to these fabulous faces.  Photographer. Entrepreneur. Designer. Renaissance Woman. It’s hard to find just one label that fits Joani White. And she likes it that way! Here's her story:

Joani White

Dallas Dweller: Joani White Joani White's gift is capturing wildlife and nature scenes from her travels throughout the world including places like Africa, Greece, Australia, Indonesia and much of the U.S.  Her most recent excursion was to Alaska to capture the beauty of the Northern Lights. White was on a wait list for over 2 years for this project before she got the call. She packed up her life, put everything she owned in storage and headed North to the Arctic Circle for a month-long trip. That trip was so successful that White just found out she had been accepted to go BACK to Alaska to photograph polar bears this October!
So what are a few of her favorite Dallas landmarks to shoot? “It was exciting to see the recent addition of the Margaret Hill Hunt Bridge to our city being built over the past few years. Turtle Creek is fantastic for engagement sessions, holiday portraits, etc. and I always choose because of the background it provides. It never fails that the photographs turn out amazing and my clients tell me that those are their favorite portraits. There are also some edgy backdrops near my former studio on Dragon Street that are still my "go to" spots for some unique finishes and city backgrounds. I have done some fantastic photo shoots from the pool deck at the Cirque as well as the W Hotel that have been stunning. I have rented concept suits at ZaZa for some sexy and edgy fashion shoots and the client has needless to say felt instantly transported with backdrops that are simply gorgeous! The courtyard at the Crescent has made for some incredible bridal portraits with the scrollwork and fountain in the middle."  There you go Instagrammers, you now have all the inside scoop for the city’s best backgrounds!

For someone who has traveled all over the world, I had to ask White why she continues to make Dallas her home? “Dallas is a fantastic home base for several reasons. First and foremost, I am from here and my family is here. Dallas is a glamorous city with a lot of fashion-forward people that have embraced my designs and artistic endeavors over the years. It is right in the middle of the country and accessible to both coasts in the US and from DFW I grab a flight to anywhere in the world with only a few major stops along the way. Also, numerous manufacturing opportunities and resources are readily available."
Her background in the Dallas spotlight began with a jewelry line named Joan & Company that was showcased at Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, Henri Bendel from 1999 to 2005. She had a showroom at the Apparel Mart and in NYC for many years. She then moved into real estate and spent several years working for Hillwood Development, who hired her to market their crown jewel luxury project "The Creeks of Preston Hollow" showcasing the Grand Luxe Show home that sold for 7 million dollars.
White currently sells her "Urban Goddess Collection" of handbags and jewelry through trunk shows. “It allows me to still keep my toe dipped in the water (so to speak) with several high-end lines of jewelry and handbags and other little luxury sparkles. This selling direct approach keeps my customers happy and allows me to make it a fun and enjoyable experience without the mass manufacturing headaches that went along with my own collections over the years.,” says White.
