Montreal’s five piece CTZNSHP are breathing new life into some familiar sounds with their latest single, “Low Lives”. Throughout the track, shades of Interpol, The National and even the bustling pop beats of M83 shine through. Bringing a sense of fervent emotion to that thinning line between indie rock and indie pop, CTZNSHP really hit the ground running from the start of the song. Pulsating guitar lines make way for a power-packed punch of synth, drums and a yearning guitar melody that previews the syncopated chorus to come. Leader singer Jesse LeGallais’ gruff vocals are the perfect compliment to the surge of guitars that quietly fade into short spurts of bubbling pop synth. More polished than ever, “Low Lives” is the first track released of a whole new set of material from CTZNSHP, which promises to be just as powerful and refined.
