CSI Wins 7 Basketball Trophies at CUNY Conference

The College of Staten Island (CSI) basketball programs were the beneficiaries of numerous basketball trophies during the annual CUNY (City University of New York) Athletic Conference  luncheon held yesterday afternoon at the Water Club in New York City. The College of Staten Island basketball athletes took home seven awards in all out of a maximum of twenty-six that were handed out Thursday afternoon.

The CSI men’s basketball team has an outstanding 21-4 record (including a 14 game win streak) going into the 2012 CUNY Tournament as they earned the #1 seed and will take on #8 John Jay in the first round at the Sports and Recreation Center on Saturday. While the men’s team was awarded with the #1 seed in this years CUNY tournament, the women’s basketball team (9-13) ended up with the #5 seed and will take on #4 Lehman in the first round.

Men’s Team

T.J. Tibbs – First Team All-Conference
Jordan Young – First Team All-Conference
Bloochy Magloire – Second Team All-Conference
Javon Cox – Rookie of the Year
Tony Petosa – Coach of the Year

Women’s Team

Katelyn Hepworth – Second Team All-Conference
Nikki Fabozzi – Rookie of the Year

This was head coach Tony Petosa’s second consecutive men’s “Coach of the Year” basketball trophy. Jordan Young is currently third all-time scoring in CSI men’s basketball history with 1,659 points. He needs just 25 more to pass the second all-time scorer in CSI men’s basketball history, David Paul. As the All-Conference basketball trophies are a great addition to any player’s resume,  coach Tony Petosa and his team have one thing on their mind – to hoist the championship basketball trophy after winning the 2012 CUNY Tournament!
