CSI: NY 8x18: Near Death
Original Air Date: 11 May 2012

StorylineA violent shooting leaves Mac in a limbo between life and death and with a choice to make. While he struggles for his life, it's up to his team to bring the shooter to justice.TriviaSame as it occurred in the season opener, "Indelible", the opening credits incorporate the old CSI:NY logo at the beginning of the sequence.

The very last lines of the episode belong to Macy Gray's song "Coming Back to You": 'I've been here before. I'll be coming back for more. Maybe this time I can stay', playing on the fact that the show's eventual renewal hadn't been decided yet when the episode was filmed.
The intro for this episode is way shorter than usual and doesn't have any dialog.
Sid has used some of the money he has made out of his Hammerback Sleeper pillow to make a donation to The Hammerback Research and Forensic Development Center at Chelsea University.
Mac knew that Flack had shot Simon Cade dead after he killed Jess in 5x25 "Pay Up" and decided not to act on it.
Mac mentions that the Giants won the Super Bowl the year that Jess died. However, the episode where Jess dies (5x25 "Pay Up") is set up on May 20th, 2009 and that year the Super Bowl winners were the Pittsburgh Steelers vs the Arizona Cardinals.
Mac's full name is Mac Llewellyn Taylor. His middle name is Welsh, coming from his mother's side.
The action in this episode has a time span of 6 months.
The prayer that Christine is saying at Mac's bedside is called "The Apostle's Creed". The version she is reciting is from the mass of the Roman Catholic Church.
Will Rothhaar, who plays Luke Shelton, also appears in the CSI episode "World's End" and in the CSI: Miami one "Countermeasures".
Brad Carter, who plays Darius Cole, also appears in the CSI episodes "19 Down" and "One to Go".
Brendan Ford, who plays Doctor #1, also appears in the CSI: Miami episode "To Kill a Predator".
