CSI: NY 8x07: Crushed

Original Air Date: 11 November 2011

Storyline: When news of a high school house party goes viral, resulting in overcrowding, a collapsed porch and a teenage girl's death, the CSIs must use social media to uncover the truth about how she died. Meanwhile, Jo's final case at the FBI returns to haunt her.Trivia: During the episode it is mentioned that one of the characters plans to run the New York Marathon that weekend. However, the New York Marathon 2011 took place on November 6th whereas the episode aired on November 11th. The date would have been correct if the episodes had not been postponed a week due to the World Series.

A scene from episode 7x15, "Vigilante", can be seen during this episode.
Gary Sinise remains seated all episode long due to an injury that he suffered while filming episode "Get Me Out Of Here!". He ripped a muscle in his leg filming the fight scene in the cemetery.
Valentina De Angelis, who plays Libby Drake, also appears in the CSI episode "Disarmed and Dangerous".

Review: "Crushed" reminded me of the good old times, before budget cuts or lack of ideas made the producers decide one case per week was enough for entertainment value. I remember how disappointed I was when it got clear that having two cases each episode was not going to happen anymore, so I actually got excited when Ali Rand walked into Flack's precinct, despite the lack of actual lab work on the rape and Jo's involvement in it. Man, I miss Stella!

While Lindsay was busy with the rape - one that connected to Jo's last case at the FBI, the crime lab got to investigate the death of a teenage girl who had thrown a party at her house - a party gone viral. As Flack put it, "Welcome to the end of the world as we know it." The internet and social media are not always the good thing they are advertised to be. Not only did they enable Libby Drake's party to go from just a few close friends to about 700 people in a short time, leading to the house being transformed in Jo's office, but the internet was actually a means to create a cruel game: deceive a virgin girl into thinking she was popular and then have one of the guys sleep with her and rate her performance on a blog accessible to the entire high school.
The investigation into what was discovered to be a murder and not just a freak accident was quite entertaining and I'm glad I didn't let the bad season start convince me to stop watching this show. Despite my constant complaint about the one too many arcs involving Jo, the cool lab work is the main reason I'm watching CSI: NY and I'm glad the focus on that was not lost. Plus, every time Flack and Danny work together, the show also dives into the sexy fun element and I loved the scene where they decided who would chase the mall cop, not caring about giving him a head start while playing a little game of rock-paper-scissors.
I'm wondering if this is the last we've seen of John Curtis and the rape case. As much as I'd hate another Jo centered episode, it would be a shame not to have Jason Wiles and Beau Garrett reprise their roles in a future installment.CSI: NY 8x06: Get Me Out of Here! Back to Season 8
