Hi everybody, I hope we all doing outstanding it's Xmas Time! It's the most wonderful time of the year. I don't really feel like teaching you anything. It's rainy in Atlanta and doesn't really look like Christmas, at least it doesn't look that way to me maybe because I grew up having snow (more or less) on Christmas. But still at night a lot of building and parks do have lots of lights that will compensate the luck of snow. Creating Bokeh So when you do take pictures at night try using your tripod and a slow (1/50+) shutter speed to capture all the small details. Keep your ISO not too high you don't want any (or minimum) noise in your picture. Do you still remember how to create the depth of field? if you never read it or forgot you can read ithere. What I'm gonna tell you today is how to create bokeh.
Creating Bokeh It's very easy and you get an awesome effect for your pictures. Large aperture works best like 1.4, 1.8 I love the way my 50mm 1.4 does it and I do recommend it or 35mm 1.4 both are great. The easiest is to set your camera to aperture priority (AV). Shutter speed should be faster than 1/50, if you go slower it's just gonna blur it all. The closer you are to the subject the better. Creating Bokeh The further the background is the better. If you are using a zoom lens extend it to the longest focal length. Make sure the background gets plenty of light. Christmas lights, street lamps, windows, traffic lights work best! While a consistently lit background would just create a regular blur. If you don't have enough light rise your ISO. Simply saying you need something shiny to take a shape of a circle in the dark. If you dont have a subject just swtich you lens to manual focus and have fun.  Creating Bokeh Hope you enjoyed the post and kept something useful to yourself. I wish you merry holidays, love each other and keep peace in your heart.
