Common On Diversity “We’re Making A Statement Without Having To Preach”

Rapper, Common was at Sundance with Alfre Woodard promoting  their film, Burning Sands that premieres on Netflix March 10th.  Burning Sands takes viewers on a  journey of fraternity hazing through the eyes of one pledgee torn between honoring a code of silence or standing up against the intensifying violence of underground hazing.

The cast was asked if they thought things were getting better regarding diversity in films, and Common revealed that the world is ready for diversity, and that movies like Hidden Figures, and TV shows like Queen Sugar are making a statement without having to preach.

“Whether it’s ‘Moonlight,’ to ‘Hidden Figures,’ or you go to the television with ‘Atlanta,’ ‘Queen Sugar,’ ‘Luke Cage.’ We’re making a statement without having to preach.”
