Comic Con 2014: The Final True Blood Panel

Posted on the 28 July 2014 by Tbfansource @tbfansource

To be completely honest, I was emotional the night before the final True Blood panel at Comic Con 2014. We are down to the final handful of episodes after all so it makes sense. I prepared myself all day long for the final True Blood panel at Comic Con. But the truth is that there is no way to prepare for the last time we will ever see the entire cast of True Blood at Comic Con again. Due to different reasons, Alexander Skarsgård (Eric Northman), Ryan Kwanten (Jason Stackhouse), and Joe Manganiello (Alcide Herveaux) were all missing. But it was nice to see Carrie Preston (Arlene Fowler) and Chris Bauer (Andy Bellefleur) at make their first appearance. Before the Q&A even started, I found myself startled at the hair style changes in the cast simply because I’ve been so used to seeing them all look a certain way. That’s when it really started to hit me that True Blood is finished.

When Tim Stack asked about favorite pilot memories, Sam Trammell’s (Sam Merlotte) answer about the Suite Life of Zack and Cody shooting next door made me laugh because the combination of Disney vs. racy HBO series is so odd but that’s the way things work out. My other favorite moment was the fact that Nelsan had to get used to wearing tighter shirts to play Lafayette and that he was the one who made Big John part of the show.

I also liked hearing about all the different wrap stories. Just the way that Anna Paquin (Sookie Stackhouse) tells hers was enough to be funny. But the most touching were Rutina (Tara Thornton) being hugged by Adina Porter (Lettie Mae Thornton) after she wrapped and that Alex had a difficult time keeping it together during his last scene with Kristin Bauer van Straten (Pamela Sywnford de Beaufort).

Hearing Carrie Preston talk about Arlene’s upcoming arc with Keith (Riley Smith) was fun not to mention her fondness for drunk Arlene and her tip to get rid of fake blood with shaving cream. Deborah Ann Woll (Jessica Hamby) talking about her toad worthy experience was also humorous mostly because of the way she said “Just give me the fucking toad,” and the fact that panelists aren’t allowed to swear.

Nelsan and Kristin also surprised me with the fact that they used scarves and jewelry respectively that had been given to them by fans in their character’s costumes. When it came to the most moving scenes, I thought Deborah’s comment about Jessica going to Jason (Ryan Kwanten) after she killed Andy’s daughters was really sweet and interesting because Jessica learns that she is loved in spite of the horrible act she committed.

Over all I think this was a wonderful panel for Comic Con 2014. Shows usually only get 45 minutes, which I’m sure we exceeded and a lot of ground was covered. The teaser being referred to in the video is posted at the end of the panel videos.
