Coffee Wars!

By Midlifemargaritas @mdlifemargarita
Coffee Wars! Why do adults act like idiots to other adults? Have we all just become rude and obnoxious? You would think a cup of coffee would soften people up, bring them together for a greater cause or maybe band together to save the world! Nope. Some people just suck.
I meet a few girlfriends each week for a cup of Java, usually at the local Starbucks. Lately, we have had some baaaad energy with our coffee purchase. It started out really simple. We were minding our own business, sitting at the table all scrunched together in our crowded coffee shop. Then the bad people started giving us dirty looks. Why you ask? Because they wanted us to move on so they could take over our space!
Apparently this group of adults, some in business suits, others in casual dress meet each DAY for coffee and sometime stay for hours! Now I know most of them work because you can hear them talk about work. They must have one heck of a benefit package to be able to sit at a Starbucks for hours on end each week. They sit there eye-ing our one empty chair. Finally the guy in the blue tie goes for it. He says, "can I have that chair" as he is taking it. :( Nice.  The next time we meet one of the ladies of the group arrives alone. She takes over the biggest table in the shop and sits there daring anyone to sit down while she holds the table for her "group". They don't even start showing up for 45 minutes! RUDE! I so want to just get up and go sit with her and start inviting strangers to sit with me. But I control myself.
We arrive BEFORE the bad group! We take the big table! (It seats 4 but the group adds as many empty chairs as they can and sometimes add tables so no one else can sit anywhere) Boy do we get dirty looks. They pull up chairs to a smaller table next to us and begin trying to push us out. One lady puts her chair so close to mine that I can see her ear wax! Finally we give up and move on.
Next time we sit outside and try to enjoy the warm weather. The tables outside are on a very small sidewalk in front of the parking area. Birds are everywhere and we are dodging bird poop from the birds above us. So far, so good. We are nearly run over several times when people are parking and they feel the need to pull up on the sidewalk. Seriously? All this for conversation and coffee. The last visit to the coffee shop I didn't make. My friends did and one of them had her car swiped by someone. No damage but the offender didn't even apologize as my friend sat her in car looking out at the offender looking shocked I am sure. If I had been there that day, we would all be in jail. I have my limits.
We now go to a new coffee store in Raleigh. LOVE IT! It's clean and no drama mamas! The coffee is local and they serve it with little swirls of happiness in each cup. I would tell you where it is but I don't want this new place to get popular and I don't want the bad people to find us. I just want to enjoy my coffee with a few girlfriends and not go to jail over coffee. :)
Did I tell you about the time I was kicked out of Denny's???????.....
