I haven’t heard great things about waterproof mascaras. I’ve never really seen the need for one unless you plan to brave the elements at Glastonbury (which I do not. Ever). My non-waterproof Clinique mascara survived The Notebook so I was pretty sure it had my back. However, when an invitation to The Pride of Britain Awards fell into my mailbox, I knew I’d need something with maximum staying power. No one wants a mascara meltdown, especially when your rubbing shoulders with famous faces that will have tear-proof mascara down to a fine art. Introducing Clinique’s black high impact waterproof mascara. Ooh! It’s a goodie and trust me you need it in your repertoire.
I’ve always avoided using a waterproof mascara because of the sheer amount of whinging people do about getting it off. So when I applied the Clinique version, I expected to be removing traces of it weeks later. The next morning I stumbled bleary eyed to the sink and used my usual Liz Earle cleanse and polish along with the muslin cloth. A cotton pad doused with Simple’s eye makeup remover was all it took to erase the last few traces. I was wary of this waterproof mascara but I loved it for more reasons than one. I love that the packaging is green so I don’t get it mixed up with my normal one. I’m also crazy about the wand. It’s thin and it creates a super defined lash. It’s also small enough to coat your bottom lashes too. At £17.50, it’s not the cheapest mascara on the shelves but I think it’s worth it considering your eyelashes don’t come off with it. So many waterproof mascaras leave lashes feeling brittle. So how did it perform on the night? It didn’t smudge, it didn’t smear and there was not a panda eye in sight. I wouldn’t say it’s big on volume but when you need a mascara that won’t budge, this is the wand you need. It’s like armor for your eyes.
