CivicBrief.com features local government news and issues by Newser editorThe Civic Brief has taken over coverage of civic news and issues from the L.A. Newser effective immediately. Edited by Jim E. Winburn, CivicBrief features an editorial focus on civic issues outlined through community interest, engagement and concern with local government councils and agencies throughout the San Gabriel Valley.

While institutional news coverage of local government decisions and actions often seek to inform readers and residents through so-called objectivity and experienced analysis, CivicBrief attempts a more personal involvement in the practice of community news. Local career journalists often provide readers “City News,” news of official business at city hall, or “Community News,” news of general interest to a community — but how does your hometown reporter normally fare with “Civic News?”

Civic News is nothing less than news coverage of citizen participation, the very activities and affairs enmeshed with the challenging issues of one’s own local governance. Many journalists report on accountability and transparency, but how many truly inform the citizenry toward making their own decisions and taking their own action?

CivicBrief hopes to pursue this particular void in local government reporting. Visit www.civicbrief.com to read for yourself. Contact Jim E. Winburn with any feedback by email at [email protected].
