Near the Upper Falls lies Cataract, Indiana.Though sleepy and very quiet now, I’m assured that many years ago it was a busy place.

But today, Cataract’s claim to fame lies in it’s waterfalls, Indiana’s biggest!

Wait a minute…Cataract Falls is considered Indiana’s biggest waterfall? I thought that was Williamsport Falls in Williamsport, Indiana!

They both get to keep their claim to fame. Williamsport Falls are the tallest while Cataract Falls is the largest waterfall by volume. The Upper Falls plunge twenty feet while the Lower Falls have an 18 foot drop.

There are two separate waterfalls a short distance apart. Don’t worry–there are signs pointing the way. What’s more, it’s very easy to find, even for me!

When you roll into the park, this scenic Indiana covered bridge is impossible to ignore. Wander over to it and you will see and most definitely hear the first waterfall located here.

After you get your fill of natural beauty, pop back in the car and head down the park road to the other set of falls, the Lower Falls. It lies half a mile or so downstream. Your visit to Cataract wouldn’t be complete unless you visited them both!

Follow the road signs to see this wonderful Indiana treasure! Spanning a larger space across, this is just a gorgeous, gorgeous area. There is a half mile nature trail between the two falls as well as other paths created by park users. Wear your walking shoes to take advantage of this lovely area.

The park is open from sunrise to sunset. Make it in to the park before the office opens at 9 AM and you can skip the parking fee.
