Carmina Charm #20

carmina charm #20Do you know that our soul is composed of harmony?

- Leonardo DaVinci

It's harmony that your soul and mind embraces again when listening to music. As sound surrounds you, only some melodies firmly resonate with you, get an immediate emotional response - whilst their approach is a smooth and soft one, whilst they slowly, carefully but steadily cling to you, these melodies eventually grab you with an intensity and force that overwhelms, that fully absorbs and stirs. It's these very melodies that are in chime with your mind and soul, it's music that leaves an imprint on your being and mesmerizes ... music that charms

XXXXI. Choices
carmina charm #20

London-based acoustic trio, Narrow Plains move on to more vivacious and bold musical shores with new single 'I Should've Known', after residing in a rather melodiously cosy and yet already vibrantly rhythmic tonal terrain ever since forming the band in 2012. The soulful folk-pop outfit might have recently signed with smart indie, while celebrating the release of their first album, however, as a lover of mellow and harmoniously inviting songs, carpe carmina has no choice but to pay tribute to one of their early and most emotive compositional offerings to date instead of (and deservedly so) praising the energetic drive of their latest release. 'Choices', featured on Narrow Plains' debut EP, combines everything that makes listening to this music-making trinity such a wonderful pleasure, - Charlie Ferriday's clear and dulcet voice (one of warmly raucous timbric token), atmospheric bass tonality, briskly buoyant guitar play, a hauntingly melodious harmonica signature and dynamic percussions - eventually even proves that blissfully vivid musical ease can be as fascinating as sonorous and infectious instrumental vitality.

Live recording of 'Choices' at John Davenport's studio in North Carolina (Narrow Plains won the recording session with the prestigious producer in the context of an online talent contest hosted by Bands4Good)

XXXXII. Trap Door
carmina charm #20

These four lads from liverpool know how to create tonal atmosphere full of trippy tension and dimly absorbing melodic chasms: indie-rockers Seprona show off with single 'Trap Door' in an overly confident way and grab the listener's attention without fail, tickle his acoustic fancy in depth. While impulsive instrumentals join ludically hypnotic psychedelic waves, Daniel's moody and gripping vocal style control the suspensefully tingling song. Being the most recent in a set of single releases - all covered in fulminant and thrilling sonic mystery - 'Trap Door' comes out as the most mature and exciting in sound. And this makes carpe carmina even surer in its prediction: the liverpudlian quartet has big things coming, one is the music video for this very belter of a track.
