Canoeing Down The Delaware – The Dog Days Are Just Beginning

By Kenin Bassart @Constantramble

The Poconos Mountains are a fabulous place to go for a romantic weekend. Do you know what also makes for a great romantic weekend? Weimaraners! Okay so maybe not, but Zoe insisted on joining us for our weekend getaway to the Poconos and as always she also insisted that she firmly plant her fuzzy butt right in the middle of everything. While on our fabulous romantic getaway to the Poconos, Kenin and I decided to take an intimate canoe trip down the gorgeous Delaware River. Luckily for Zoe, the folks at Kittatinny Canoes love dogs just as much as we do so they didn’t mind her tagging along on our romantic river ride.

Our 12 mile journey down the Delaware River started on River Beach. The great team at Kittatinny outfitted us with some life jackets and whistles, made sure we had enough water and snacks, and sent us on our merry way.

Princess Zoe refused to paddle (I thought all dogs knew how to doggie paddle) through the entire trip. She sat squarely in the middle of the canoe for the entire 5-hours just soaking in the sunshine.

Our trip down the Delaware was so peaceful and beautiful. The weather was absolutely perfect.

The clouds offered just enough cover and even a bit of entertainment. The water was so calm and the surrounding area was just serene.

The entire journey was 12 miles and took us about 5 hours to get to our destination of Dingman’s Beach. I was severely impressed how well-behaved our furry travel companion was. Canoeing seems to be one of her favorite things to do now (as long as she doesn’t have to paddle).

My journey may not have been the romantic escapade that I had planned out in my head, but it was definitely a day well spent. Our tag-along may have been a wedge between us on the entire trip, but she sure is cute.

If you are ever in the Poconos area and want to take a trip down the Delaware, Kittatinny Canoes is the place to go. Their dog friendly excursions puts them at the top of our list and their dog-friendly staff should put them at the top of yours.
