Budget Car Hire: Enjoy the sights, Australia!

Australia is a big country, and most Australians yearn to explore it. Say you live in Sydney and a sibling moves to Perth. What a grand idea to visit the West Coast oceans and see the sights!

Air fares are high as carriers costs rise. Although petrol prices aren’t necessarily cheap–the average price per liter hovers somewhere around $1.50–many drivers can save money on a cross-country vacation by driving and enjoying the beauty of our great land.

Considerations

Plan on about three days to drive one-way from Sydney to Perth. (It’s approximately 4,039 kilometers or 2,510 miles.) Every highway and driver association encourages drivers not to drive at night.

Naturally, make sure one’s auto is in good mechanical condition. Four-wheel drive isn’t a necessity because all of Australia’s main thoroughfares are sealed (though it’s nice to have).

Taking paid lodging at a road house isn’t necessary if one wants to save money: it’s possible to tidy up at roadside rest areas and rest with a pillow from home.

Get the car serviced before the long trip. If one’s auto is a few years old, make certain it’s primed for the long road trip!

Leave your car cares behind

Alternatively, consider a great deal on a Budget car hire: the car is ready and waiting for one’s adventure. There’s no need to double-check the spare tire. It’s already done.

Check out the rates and cars available, and select from economy, compact, intermediate, standard, full-size, premium and luxury models. (And let the reservationist know about any special needs, e.g. a car seat, right away.)

Suggestions

Bring along necessary safety equipment, e.g. a torch, even if the auto is assumed to be in tip-top shape. Don’t forget the mozzie repellant!

Avoid paying for beverages by bringing along an auto cooler. Stock with water or the potable drink of your choice.

Withdraw cash to carry on the journey: accessible ATMs may be out of service at a critical point on the way!

The Nullarbor

During the Sydney to Perth journey, the driver will cross the Nullarbor, so it’s essential to drive at or under the speed limits. Know that petrol costs are higher (about twenty percent) along this stretch of the journey.

Kalgoorlie

From here, drive on to Kalgoorlie whilst heading towards Perth. One isn’t yet at the West Coast, but it’s a scenic, historical drive.

SA/WA Border

Expect to have any agricultural products, including nuts, vegetables, honey, or fruits, taken at the busy SA/WA border.

Conclusion

Ask about one-way trips: drive one-way and fly the other, and make sure to inquire about insurance and excess reduction options.

There are so many things to think about whilst planning a cross-country road trip that it’s easy to focus on the details. Enjoy the journey. Plan ahead, and make an advance car hire reservation at Budget car rental.
