Brunch Review: The Salisbury Bar, 72 Nithsdale Rd, Glasgow G41 2AN

By Emma @glasgowfoodie

We lament the death of Cookie in Strathbungo, but something equally good, if not better opened recently in the same spot – The Salisbury Bar

We took a trip along one Sunday for brunch and found it to be smart and inviting; the large windows let in a lot of light to the small space and the kitchen is no longer at ground level, there’s a bar instead on the other side, so it’s still small but perhaps not quite as small! We were quickly seated and a number of items on the breakfast menu jumped out (the lunch menu was also available) – pancakes with bacon, French toast with bacon and maple syrup, Belgian waffles with honey, fruit and yoghurt…but we opted for…

The Salisbury Bar - Salisbury stack

The Salisbury Bar – Salisbury Stack £5.95

A selection of breakfast items stacked – perfect poached egg on top of Stornoway black pudding, atop smoked bacon with three, yes three(!), slices of French toast underneath. All utterly delicious together!

The Salisbury Bar - eggs benedict

The Salisbury Bar – Eggs Benedict  £5.50

Perfect eggs, tasty ham and a lovely Hollandaise on a proper toasted muffin, plus it’s always good to get Eggs Benedict for just over a fiver (some places charge an arm and a leg…).

They also have a reasonably extensive drinks menu for such a small place, we had 2 beers – one of the re-branded/new Belhaven bottled ales and their own Salisbury Brew (usual thing that Belhaven are doing for a lot of pubs at the moment), and 2 coffees which were pretty good and they also have a cocktail list and some good wines.

Staff were great and the toilets (which are downstairs) were clean. We had a relaxed start to the day and the place was filling up with people as we left so we are eager to return for their À la carte menu.

Our bill:
2 Americanos £4.20
Salisbury Stack at £5.95
Eggs Benedict £5.50
Belhaven Speyside Oak Aged Blonde (330ml bottle) £4.20
1/2pt Salisbury Brew £1.90
Total £21.75

TL;DR
+ very tasty, affordable brunch
+ good food and drink selection
+ staff great
+ toilets clean

- toilets not wheelchair-friendly
