Brunch at The Larder

By Thedublindiary @TheDublinDiary
In the past The Larder on Parliament Street was one of those places that I abused. I thought it was so good that you'd find me there every week, sometimes twice a week. I ruined it for myself, got sick of it, started to pick faults and then stopped going altogether.
I was on a break. I tried other brunch places, I even fell in love again. Then one day, out of the blue, I discovered The Larder anew. It was like putting on a forgotten favorite pair of cosy pajamas. So warm and so familiar, like home! So, our relationship has been rekindled, but I'm taking it slow!

The restaurant is small but has the illusion of being spacious thanks to two panorama windows at either end. Wood panelling in some restaurants would be dreary but here it's elegant, just like the faux antique sugar bowls. It brings to mind a New York interpretation of what a Parisian cafe should look like!

One of the reasons I love The Larder is that they don't limit their brunch menu to dishes based around eggs. You can get chicken and chorizo penne for €10 or fish and chips at €11. That being said I'm personally all about the eggs!

Heartwarming brunch in a pan.

Gooey goodness!

My aptly named Brunch in a Pan (€10) was really cute! A small iron skillet came filled with chucks of fried potatoes, wild mushrooms and bacon and topped with two poached eggs, along with a side of homemade bread and relish. It was warm and wholesome. The kind of food you'd imagine would cure a hangover instantly... if you should ever happen to have one...

Above average full Irish!

Himself is nothing if not reliable and opted for the full Irish (€9.50). Soon I'll have enough examples to run a "Best Full Irish Breakfast in Dublin" blog post! This is a particularly good specimen. More poached eggs, lashings of bacon, good quality sausage, tomato, beans and more of that lovely homemade bread. The kind of food that elicits a sigh of contentment when finished!

Shouldn't every restaurant have a to-scale model?

The Larder is very relaxed. I've never been rushed out of here, they always have a stack of Sunday papers lying around so I usually grab one, order another cup of their delicious coffee, sit back, relax and watch the world go by!
Honestly, I am trying to take it slow...
