Braided Bread / Challah with Candied Papaya Chunks - Eggless #BreadBakers

For this month's Bread Baker's , The theme chosen by Gayathri of Gayathri's cookspot was Braided Bread.

I chose to make this five strand Braided bread with candied Papaya chunks . I used the candied papaya chunks to make it more colourful.

Candied Papaya chunks is known in our country as Tutti -Frutti , I like munching it. It is used in breads , cakes and cookies. It can be homemade or store bought.

Challah is one type of braided bread. Challah is a Braided , celebratory , Jewishbread. Jews makes challah every Friday and for celebrations. It was the main bread for Sabbath Dinner.

All purpose Flour - 4 cup

Active dry Yeast - 2 ½ tbs

Luke warm Water - 1 ½ cup

Candied Papaya Chunks ( Tutti Frutti ) - 1 cup

In a large bowl mix together the flour , yeast , sugar and salt.

Add the warm milk and water , mix well.

Transfer to the counter and knead for 15 minutes or till the dough becomes soft.

Add the butter and tutti - frutti and knead again for five minutes.

Place the dough in a oiled bowl and cover with cling wrap . Let it double in volume.

Divide the dough into five equal parts to make five strand braid.

Roll each part into strands of equal length.

Connect the five strands at one end and spreading the other ends.From left number the strands 1, 2, 3, 4 ,5 . Then place strands 1 over 3, 2 over 3 and 5 over 2. Repeat until the ends of the strands , then pinch the tips together to seal.

Transfer the braided bread to baking tray and brush with melted butter. I spread few Tutti frutti on top.

Let the bread for second rise for about 30 minutes.

Bake in a preheated oven for 40 minutes @ 180*C.

Let the bread cool and slice.

Braided Bread with Candied Papaya Chunks is ready to serve.
