Box TV – Stream Movies and TV Shows for Free

Posted on the 16 October 2012 by Jyoti Arora @Jy0tiAr0ra

In the previous year, I tried many times to stream movies or TV shows online. But either the websites offering free movies and TV shows looked unsafe, or the content was broken up in several bits, or I was politely told that the content was not available for viewing in my locality. Finally, I got so frustrated that I stopped searching altogether. Of course, Torrents were there, but I didn’t want to put my computer at danger.

But finally, here is a website that has arrived to offer premium content, and its services are not limited to just localities in the US. As of yet, it only has movies, but the TV Shows are coming soon too.

This website is BoxTV. According to the websites’ FAQs, ‘BoxTV is a premium video service that brings to you the latest movies, TV shows and premium video content in one place. BoxTV provides you a way to access content from your favorite studios and channels in a highly optimized and world-class user experience.’

And here’s what I like best about BoxTV:

1. Content: I spent the entire past hour browsing through the movies it offers. And I was very relieved to find that the content being offered was really worth a watch. I found some really great movies there. I hope the same would hold true for TV shows as well when they become available. The content is divided in categories like Adventure, Romance, Crime, Horror etc. to make it easy to browse. By going to the Settings, you can select the categories and content languages that you are interested in.

2. User Interface: The UI is really nice and clean, and the best thing of all, as of yet, I didn’t see any advertisements cluttering the space. A ticker of featured movies keeps on scrolling at the top, and bold tabs can quickly lead you to the Latest added content, most popular content and the content recommended for you based upon your previous activity on the website. On the right side bar you can see what other users are watching.

3. Social Connect: You can link your BoxTV profile to your Facebook profile, and as your friends do the same, you can keep a track of what your friends are watching and liking, and your friends can do the same. According to information given on the website, if you use this feature, whatever you watch, like or favorite on BoxTV would get posted on your Facebook profile.

4.Newsletter: BoxTV sends out a regular newsletter to its registered members to enable them to keep track of the latest added content on the websites, as also the upcoming attractions.

5. Simple, no download required: The website’s media player can run on any of the currently popular web browsers, and you don’t need to download any plugin or extension to watch content on BoxTV.

6. Resume Watching: This is one feature of BoxTV that I really like. If you find it necessary to interrupt your show and leave, you can put the movie or TV show your are watching in the Resume Watching list. Just hover your mouse pointer over the little triangle next to your username at top right corner. A drop down list will open up. Just click on ‘Resume Watching’ and whatever you are watching will be saved there. And whenever you want to continue watching that movie or TV show, just go to ‘Resume Watching,’ click on the video listed there and your show would resume from the point where you left it earlier.

7. Comments and Rating: The users are allowed to review, comment and rate the content they watch on BoxTV. Following those comments and rating, a fair idea can be had about which movie is worth a watch and which would just turn out to be a waste of time.

8. Favourites: Yes, you can’t just comment or rate the content, you can also add favourites. And that would make it easy for you to find your best loved movie or TV Show if you want to watch it again.

Overall, I really liked the experience of BoxTV. Only, I found the website a bit slow at times. When I clicked on a movie to watch, it took a whole minute for it to start streaming. But once the streaming began, it was unbroken and no lag disturbed my viewing pleasure.

So I’m really happy to finally have a nice, safe website offering premium content that is available freely in India. I have already lined up around eleven movies that I want to watch there. Now, all I need is to find some time for that!
