Box Office Predictions: ‘Boo 2’ Leads The Five Newcomers

Posted on the 19 October 2017 by Sirmac2 @macthemovieguy

After landing a quite impressive 28.5M debut last year, the Boo! franchise is back, and trying to keep that same audience alive. I’m betting some people saw Boo and decided not to come back for Boo 2, or wait for video, but not nearly enough to stop it from getting to first. It has competition from four other new releases: Geostorm, The Snowman, Only The Brave, and Same Kind Of Different As Me.

Next up to bat is Geostorm, which despite doing everything in its power to suggest it is a terrible film, is still coming at us. Not only is Geostorm not screening for critics, it is also not doing Thursday night screenings. Geostorm still is a pretty well advertised title, and it should fall in second of the five new releases.

Next up, there’s a battle for third, between the male-centric Snowman, and the male-centric Only The Brave. The Snowman feels like a David Fincher film, but it’s not. Critics also have not been kind on Rotten Tomatoes. Only The Brave is based on a true story, and is getting solid reviews. Both dramas should finish in the 8-10M range.

Then finally we have Same Kind Of Different As Me, starring Greg Kinnear, which was once a major studio release, and is now a PureFlix release.

As far as holdovers go, Kingsman 2 is inching its way to the 100M mark. But the bigger news is that by Sunday, It will have passed Transformers to be the 55th highest grossing film of all time domestically. To crack the top 50, it will need to dethrone the original Guardians Of The Galaxy at 333M.

Next weekend’s presumed top draw is Jigsaw, the Saw reboot, along with Thank You For Your Service, Suburbicon, and All I See Is You.
