The Ivan Frank - a great big canal boat

If last weekend taught us anything, it’s that Amsterdam’s weather continues to surprise. Just when kids were sharpening their skates in anticipation of yet another cold winter, the city’s climate threw us a curve-ball and launched into another short-lived spell of nice weather.

Lucky boat-owning locals celebrated by hitting the canals – sloepjes and grachtenbootjes and zeilboten were out in force. But what for those who don’t have a boat? How then to fully geniet (take advantage of) the final gasps of good weather? What do you say when your friends turn to you and ask, zullen wij een boot huren in Amsterdam? (shall we rent a boat in Amsterdam?)

Our friends over at Boot-Amsterdam.com have a new site where you can rent all kinds of interesting boats. A short exploration of their website will have your mouth watering at the idea of a day in the Saloonboot Little Queen Elizabeth or aboard our Queen's favourite, the Ivan Frank.

Kapitein Kok

The stunning paddle-boat Kapitein Kok

Whatever your needs (or wants) there are plenty of offers available. Rent your own Rondvartboot (tourist canal boat) and fill it up exclusively ith up to 50 friends or colleagues. Or, for a more intimate affair, a regular sloep – enough for up to six people.

Abel Tasman

Sail aboard the Abel Tasman

It all looks amazing yet it pales in comparison with the stunning array of what can no longer be considered boats but rather fully-fledged ships. From the stunningly restored paddle-boat Kapitein Kok, with space for  375 people, to the fluttering whites of the sailing boat Abel Tasman, which has room for 120 people, Boot-Amsterdam.com manages to surprise and impress at every turn.

Even as we begin our inevitable descent into winter, you shouldn’t consider the canals off-limits. Many of the boats boast impressive indoor-spaces, decks, heaters and more of everything you need to enjoy the most gezellig way to cruise Amsterdam.
